Borrowing Rules: Stanford Libraries

SLAC staff employees may use the Stanford University Libraries without charge. Their staff cards allow them to enter the stack areas or checkout books. They cannot checkout books without a valid staff i.d. and bar-code. You must bring your card with you. Spouses of staff members may also use the Stanford Libraries. They can obtain their borrower's card at the Privileges Desk at the entrance to the Green Library.

SLAC visitors may sign up for a Visting Scholar's Card for Stanford Library privileges. Ask at the SLAC Library circulation desk for Robert Gex.

FOLIO, the Stanford on-line information resource, is available free of charge to any SLAC employee with their Stanford i.d. number on their staff card. Simply, telnet elf1.stanford.edu. When the prompt: Account? appears type FOLIO. It then prompts you for your Stanford i.d. number. Enter the whole number, including dashes. Visitors may use the public terminals in the front of the SLAC Library to access FOLIO. As of June 28, 1995, there are 116 files available (some with restricted access), including the Stanford University Libraries on-line catalog (SOCRATES), EI (Engineering Index), INSPEC, MEDLINE, and about a hundred other files.

For those who wish to personally go down to Stanford campus and use the libraries, there is the free Marguerite bus service between Stanford and SLAC. Marguerite leaves from SLAC from the Central Lab annex parking lot every quarter hour starting at 8:45a.m until 5:15p.m. It takes you to Stanford campus right beside the Varian Physics building. The bus leaves Stanford on the hour and half hour to return to SLAC. Marguerite connects with the rest of Stanford campus and Palo Alto. For more information or for route maps and schedules, call 723-4375. SLAC Library has Marquerite schedules or you can access them on-line.
