Biography


Robert Justin Goldstein

Robert Justin Goldstein teaches in the Department of Political Science at Oakland University in Michigan.

He is the author of numerous books on the flag and the First Amendment, including Burning the Flag: The Great 1989-1990 American Flag Desecration Controversy (Kent State University Press, 1996); Saving “Old Glory”: The History of the American Flag Desecration Controversy (Westview Press, 1995.); and editor of Desecrating the American Flag: Key Documents of the Controversy from the Civil War to 1995 (Syracuse University Press, 1996).

Goldstein is also the author of Political Repression in Modern America: From 1870 to 1976 (University of Illinois Press, 2001).
