According to the study published in Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatry, caffeine's impact on individuals is gender-dependent.
While an espresso improves activity levels in both genders, its effect appears in men after only 10 minutes.
Caffeine reaches its maximum concentration level in about 30 to 45 minutes. A few minutes is sufficient for the compound to reach half this concentration.
Contrary to previous studies, decaffeinated coffee was shown to have similar but weaker effects on alertness levels. This type of coffee was reported to be more effective in women.
University of Barcelona researchers believe while some of the mood changes associated with decaffeinated coffee is psychological it can be a good substitute for individuals who cannot tolerate normal coffee.
