Kish to Host Seminar on Oceanology

TEHRAN (FNA)- Oceanologists from Islamic and some European countries will get together on Kish Island from December 1-3 concurrent with the International Seminar on Sea Pollution Modeling.

Secretary of the seminar Reza Joneidi told Islamic republic news agency on Wednesday that the conference can be considered the biggest and the most important event in this field over the past years.

He further added that Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) organizes a conference in Muslim countries each year.

The event was held in Jordan last year and it was agreed by the participants that Kish host the event this year, he said.

Joneidi went on to say that more than 200 articles form Iran and 22 foreign countries have been submitted to the secretariat of the event, 150 of which have been selected for presentation.

Half of the articles were sent from foreign countries, he said.

More than 70 articles will be presented orally and the rest in poster forms, Joneidi said.

He further added that the seminar involves Muslim countries but experts from non-Muslim countries such as Spain, Russia and France have also forwarded works to the event.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Senegal and some other countries are participating in the seminar, he said.

UNESCO, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and International Oceans Institute (IOI) and Iran's Ports and Shipping Organization are among the sponsors of the event
