Iran Ready to Promote Security Cooperation with Regional Countries

TEHRAN (FNA)- Intelligence Minister Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei told reporters here on Wednesday that Iran is ready to increase security cooperation with regional countries.

Iran presently expects neighboring countries to help resolve security problems, however, certain countries are not well prepared to meet the demands of Iran, MNA quoted him as saying.

He expressed hope that the security situation in the region will improve through regional cooperation.

He also dismissed reports that certain illegal groups are doing political activities as the presidential election is approaching.

He said the Interior Ministry or Intelligence Ministry will investigate any activity by any illegal party or association.

Asked about the alleged activities of certain foreign spy networks in the run-up to presidential election, Ejei said there is nothing to be worried about as the country's security service has control over all the affairs.

On the remarks by some countries about closing down the human rights office in Iran, he said these countries themselves are not caring about human rights.

The office of the Center for Protecting Human Rights was closed down for its lack of a legal license on Sunday.

The closure has been carried out with an official judicial order.

The intelligence minister said Iran has been a supporter of human rights activities and this support will continue into the future.
