TEHRAN (FNA)- The celebrated Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad has been appointed head of jury of the Muhr Asia-Africa Documentaries section of the 5th Dubai International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, the organizers of the festival that will take place from December 11 to 18, have also selected the Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi as a member of the jury for the Muhr Asia-Africa Features.
A number of Iranian films will be screening in various categories of the event, Tehran Times reported.
Nader Davudi's "Aref Squared" will go on screen at the Muhr Asia-Africa Documentary Section and Ramtin Lavvafipur's "Be Calm and Count to Seven" will be competing in the Muhr Asia-Africa Feature Film Section.
In addition, "The Song of Sparrows" by Majid Majidi and "Three Women" by Manijeh Hekmat have also been slated for screening at the festival's Cinema of Asia-Africa Section.
"35 Meters from the Water" by Hooman Seyyedi has been scheduled for screening at the Muhr Asia-Africa Short Section of the event.
The Muhr Award for Excellence in Arab Cinema was launched in 2006, with the aim of recognizing Arab filmmakers both regionally and internationally. In 2008, the Muhr Awards for Excellence have been expanded to include two separate competitions: one for the Arab Muhr Award, and the other for the Asia-Africa Muhr Award.
