Using the rotoscoping technique, Bahram Azimi will helm the project named "Tehran 1500".
Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, for use in animated films.
Bahram Radan, Mehran Modiri, Gohar Kheirandish, Mahtab Nasirpur, Mohammadreza Sharifinia, Habib Rezaii, and Hesam Navvab-Safavi will star in the animation. However, some other people are to join the cast.
"It took one year to complete the screenplay for the project and we will soon begin making the initial models," MNA quoted the project manager Hadi Monabbati as telling the Persian service of the Iranian students news agency on Monday.
"The cast members will originally do the voice for the characters in the animation," he added.
The project will be completed in 20 months, he noted.
Director Azimi is mostly known for the animated driving commercials he has made for the Iranian police.
Huti and Sia Saketi, the two characters in the commercials, are very popular in Iran.
"Tehran 1500" is the third project, in which the Iranian animators use the rotoscoping technique.
"The Dawn Bird," a documentary on the political activities of Ayatollah Hassan Modarres, and "Cell Phone," an action film starring Reza Kianian and Alireza Shjanuri, have previously been made by this technique.
