TEHRAN (FNA)- An exhibit of Iran's modern Christian artists in two fields of painting and photography opened with a ceremony held at Tehran's Saba Art and Cultural Center on December 7.
At the ceremony, painter Janet Lazarian said that the exhibit features artwork created by Iranian Christian artists but it is by no means a comprehensive showcase. She also commemorated world-renowned painter Marco Grigorian as one of the icons of modern art who used many Iranian themes and symbols in his work.
Some 45 artworks created by Lazarian are on display at the exhibit some of which belongs to Lazar Gallery, she added.
Some 49 photographers are participating in the exhibit with at least one each of their works is on display. However, about 15 photos taken by the celebrated artist Nikol Faridani are on display during the gala, the secretary of the Photo Section of the showcase Arman Estepanian told the Iranian students news agency.
"We have decided to collect Iranian Christian artists together to introduce their work. We did not judge the paintings and we simply selected the best and most original ones," the secretary of the Painting Section Seruj Barseghian told the Iranian students news agency.
He expressed his hope that drawing, graphic designs and batiks created by Iranian Christian artists would go on display in future exhibitions.
Artwork created by Iranian Christian artists during the past 60 years will be on display at the exhibition, which will run through December 20.
