Iran Asks UN to Send Fact-Finding Committee to Gaza over Use of WP

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran slammed Israeli use of illicit weapons including the white phosphorus also known as Willie Pete (WP) against defenseless civilians of Gaza.

The Iranian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the inhuman measure of the occupying Israel in using toxic and chemical weapons in Gaza have victimized more than 400 people.

According to the 1925 protocol of Geneva Convention employment of asphyxiating and poisonous materials particularly against civilians is prohibited thus the Israeli measure is actionable because of evading international obligations.

According to the Iranian students news agency, the statement asks the UN Secretary General to send a fact-finding committee to Gaza Strip for probes regarding breach of 1925 protocol of Geneva Convention by Israel.

White phosphorus used in munitions to produce smoke for concealing troops can also be employed as an incendiary device.

Particles of white phosphorus on skin burn through flesh to the bone, also if released in wound they will be poisonous. Breathing the white phosphorus smoke will cause liver, kidney, heart, lung and bone damage and can even lead to a very painful death.

Despite Israeli officials' denial, evidence shows Willie Pete has been used as incendiary bombs in Operation Cast Lead against Gaza.
