TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran is participating in the ongoing 12th annual summit of the African Union (AU) in Ethiopia.
The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki who arrived in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, earlier on Monday.
Iran is considered one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey and Tehran gives major priority to promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states, the Islamic republic news agency reported.
The Iranian delegation is to raise the issue of hosting the next summit of the 53-member union in Iran during the two-day summit which is to review crises facing various African states, including those of Somalia and Zimbabwe.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as well as Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa are among participants of the AU summit.
The union's previous summit was held in Egypt in June 2008.
