No One Can Stage Velvet Revolution in Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian official said staging a velvet revolution in Iran is impossible as Basij volunteer forces play an active role in the country.

Former Parliament Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel said on Wednesday that the West cannot use the tactic of staging a velvet revolution inside a country in which there is an organization like Basij which enjoys the people's support.

He added that the Islamic Revolution has always relied on people's support because the Iranian nation overthrew the Shah's regime without any help from outside the country or any armed organization, press tv reported.

Haddad Adel said the US and the West used non-governmental organizations to undermine those governments whose policies are against them.

He, however, reiterated that such policies are doomed to failure in Iran.
