33 Kinds of Iranian Handicrafts Documented

TEHRAN (FNA)- Of 250 kinds of Iranian handicrafts, 33 have so far been documented, said deputy head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

Speaking to the Islamic republic news agency, Hossein Hatefi added that 15 outdated kinds of handicrafts have been identified and will be revived.

Stating that plans are underway to train the private sector, he noted that handicrafts training is totally run by the private sector in 14 provinces.

He went on to say that 100,000 people underwent education last year.

"We are matchless in the world in terms of handicrafts and UNESCO's granting seal of excellence to 45 Iranian handicrafts is a proof for the claim," he said.

Inattention to work atmosphere is one of the main problems facing the sector, he noted.

Hatefi contended that most of the villages in Iran have the potential for being turned into tourism villages, which can help attract tourists to the country.
