"Unfortunately Iran did not actively participate in the congress for ten years. Although Ali Akbar Ashari is the president of SWARBICA Executive Board, Iran has not hosted the congress since 1997," INLA official Fariba Farzam told MNA.
By holding the congress, Iran aims to encourage Iranians and personal archivists to join SWARBICA and also to emphasize the importance of archiving, she added.
She went on to say that the head of national archives and professional archivists from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Butane, and Bengal would attend the congress.
SWARBICA is responsible for carrying out the policy and programs of the International Council on Archives (ICA) in South and West Asia.
ICA is a decentralized organization whose branches provide archivists with a regional forum in all parts of the world. Its sections bring together archivists and archival institutions having specific areas of professional interest. Its committees and working groups apply the contributions of experts to the solution of practical archiving problems.
