Nickelson to Produce Doc on Iran's 2005 Presidential Election

TEHRAN (FNA)- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's art advisor Javad Shamaqdari said that American filmmaker Michelle Nickelson is highly interested in producing a documentary on the Iranian presidential election process.

A Hollywood reporter announced on Thursday that Michelle Nickelson, president of UAE based Mirage Holdings, is prepping the documentary "We the People of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

"Nickelson is one of the filmmakers who announced her interest in making a documentary about President Ahmadinejad and the society of Iran. She began her correspondence last year and pursued the issue and she finally managed to get her visa last week," Shamaqdari explained according to Tehran Times.

Nickelson and her LA crew will travel to Iran next year to scout locations and interviewees.

"We want to interview a broad range of people living there (Iran) and how it feels for them in the run-up to next summer's presidential election," she said.

"Most Americans don't realize that, in addition to the Shiite, there is also a Jewish and Christian community in Iran and they have representation in the government," the report added.

The report also mentioned that Nickelson is in talks with U.S. distributors for the project and is seeking international partners for what she says will be a doc made for theatrical release. The budget is set at $1.5 million, and Iranian director Mohammed Reza Eslamlu is assisting with preparations and permits.

Shamaqdari further remarked that these filmmakers help to present a true image of Iran, its people and its government, "and they are free to work and produce creatively and innovatively, and will not be restricted."
