Chicago to Exhibit Persian Jewelry

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois is set to mount an exhibition of ancient Near Eastern jewelry including artifacts from Persia.

Masterpieces of Ancient Jewelry will display exquisite artifacts from Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Levant, Persia and the Islamic Middle East.

The items, some of which more than 7,000 years old, are from renowned collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Princeton University Art Museum and the Israel Museum.

The exhibition will also display maps and illustrations, which provide the historical and cultural background of the artifacts, art daily reported.

Visitors will also be able to see the museum's collection of 23,000 artifacts unearthed in the ancient Sumerian city of Kish between 1923 and 1933.

The 5,000-year-old city, located in modern Iraq, was an important part of Mesopotamia from 3,200 BCE until the 7th century CE.

Masterpieces of Ancient Jewelry will be held at the Field Museum's T. Kimball and Nancy N. Brooker Gallery this spring.
