Iranian Film to Compete for Golden Globe

TEHRAN (FNA)- Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's Song of Sparrows has been nominated for the 66th edition of the annual Golden Globe Awards.

The award-winning film will compete with 52 productions to achieve the 2008 Best Foreign Language Film award.

Song of Sparrows, which will represent Iran at the 81st Academy Awards, is set to be distributed by Regent Releasing in the US and hit the country's screens this spring, press tv reported.

Majidi's feature-length production won the Best Actor Silver Bear award at the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival for the brilliant performance of its lead actor, Reza Naji.

Song of Sparrows recounts the story of an ostrich breeder in the countryside, who is dismissed from his job and forced to leave his hometown.

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on Jan. 11, 2009 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
