Envoy: Azerbaijan Supports Iran Peaceful N. Program

TEHRAN (FNA)- Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Tehran Abbasali Hasanov announced his country's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

"Baku is not against the peaceful nuclear program of Iran," Hasanov said.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan is not against the peaceful nuclear program of Iran, the Azeri diplomat reminded.

According to Hasanov, every country has the right to use nuclear energy to meet its energy needs.

"If the nuclear program of Iran is for peaceful aims and does not pose a threat to peace or target others, why should Azerbaijan be against it? It would seem illogical," Hasanov reiterated.

Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

He added that the statement of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the nuclear program of Iran was welcomed in this country.

"The Iranian side highly values the thoughtful approach of Azerbaijan in this issue," announced Hasanov.
