TEHRAN (FNA)- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in the city of Mashhad in the northeastern province of Khorassan Razavi on Wednesday to pay a visit to the holy shrine of Imam Reza, the 8th Imam of Shiite Muslims.
Zardari was welcomed at Mashhad's Hasheminejad International Airport by the governor general of Khorassan Razavi Province Mohammad Javad Mohammadi-Zadeh and other provincial officials.
Mohammadi-Zadeh later told reporters that in his talks with the Pakistani president upon his arrival in Mashhad, the governor general has asked for establishment of a direct flight from Mashhad to Pakistan, the Islamic republic news agency reported.
Zardari, for his part, called on the provincial officials to erect a memorial statue of the late Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto in the provincial capital city Mashhad.
President Zardari arrived in Iran on Tuesday to attended the 10th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) which was in Tehran the day after.
He also held talks with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The president is to leave Mashhad a few hours later.
