Madrid Exhibits Paintings by Iran's Abbasi

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Cultural Office in Spain has mounted an exhibition of artworks by Iranian war veteran Abbas Abbasi in the capital of Madrid.

The five-day event displays some 25 watercolor paintings created by the chemically-wounded war veteran, whose works have been showcased in over 60 national and international exhibitions, press tv reported.

Abbasi, who was exposed to chemical weapons during the Iraq-Iran war, has created 88 watercolor paintings since he started his artistic activities in 1991.

In an interview with the Islamic republic news agency, Abbasi pointed to the countless achievements by young Iranians, saying, "Iranians come from an intelligent and a cultured nation. Why should any country be mad at them?"

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Iran's ambassador to Madrid Seyed Davoud Salehi praised the artistic spirit of the people of Iran.

"Such exhibitions show that our soldiers, who once fought the enemy in the battlefield, are still present with their art," he said.

The exhibition of Abbasi's paintings will run until March 23, 2009.
