"If the enemy dares to invade our country, the air defense base would be the first center which will act and confront (the attack)," Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Ahmad Mighani stated.
Iran formed an air defense unit in February as a part of its air force restructuring to boost the country's defense capabilities.
Mighani at the time said that the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had ordered that the air force be split into an air force and an air defense unit.
The Iranian commander in his today remarks termed the last Iranian year (ended 20 March) as a successful year for Iran's air defense programs and activities, and added, "We spent several months of the last (Iranian) year in 100% level of (military) preparedness."
Mighani also stated that the unit has expanded its operations several time in the last year.
He also said that the air defense base staged a successful maneuver during the pre-commissioning of the country's first nuclear power plant in the southern port city of Bushehr.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant had a test-run in February in the presence of the Iranian and Russian nuclear chiefs Gholam Reza Aghazadeh and Sergei Kiriyenko. The facility was tested by virtual fuel.
