"Troops were fired upon from the Jordanian side of the border. It was unclear who the gunmen were," she said on Tuesday.
According to the spokesman, no one was hurt in the incident.
Other sources claim that four Israeli soldiers were injured, one seriously, in the attack.
The Jordanian army says its soldiers played no role in the attack, suggesting that civilians carried it out.
Israel and Jordan inked a peace deal in 1994 and the border is usually quiet.
The attack came 18 days into the Israeli offensive into the Gaza Strip.
Israel began its air and sea operations against the Gaza Strip on December 27 and has since escalated its offensive into a violent ground operation.
The attack has so far left at least 940 Palestinians dead and nearly 4,400 others wounded. The assault has also claimed the lives of 33 Israeli soldiers and injured 80 others.
