Arab League members are in Cairo for ministerial-level meetings expected to focus on tensions between Iraq and Syria, among other issues.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari met on the sidelines Wednesday to discuss the situation.

Zebari also met separately with his Syrian counterpart Tuesday.  Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said Syria fully supports Iraqi unity, integrity and security.

Tensions between Iraq and Syria have risen since suicide truck bombers targeted government buildings in Baghdad last month (August 19), killing nearly 100 Iraqis.  Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has blamed the attacks on Baathist sympathizers based in Syria.  Syria has demanded that Iraqi authorities provide evidence to back up those allegations.

Arab foreign ministers also are expected to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the state of affairs in Iraq, and conditions in Sudan's Darfur region.

The Arab League's agenda includes political, economic, social and legal issues affecting the Arab world.
