U.S. authorities say fire crews have contained 60 percent of a huge wildfire that has burned in the mountains near the city of Los Angeles for two weeks.

Authorities in the western U.S. state of California say firefighters will try to burn vegetation Tuesday to remove fuels for the wildfire and prevent it from spreading eastward into another mountain range.

The blaze has killed two firefighters and destroyed 78 homes and two commercial buildings since it began on August 26. Officials suspect the cause of the fire was arson and have launched a homicide investigation.

California authorities have spent almost $58 million fighting the fire. It was 56 percent contained by Monday. Officials estimate the blaze will be fully contained by September 15.
