Air Crash in Northeastern Iran

Photos:

The plane en route to the northeastern city of Mashhad from Tehran crashed as it was attempting to make an emergency landing at the destination at about 18:00 (1430 GMT) Friday
Aria Airlines Flight 1525 from Tehran, carrying 153 passengers and crew members, slid off the runway during landing at Mashhad's Hasheminejad Airport on Friday
The aircraft, an Ilyushin Il-62 jet, had 153 passengers and crewmembers onboard
The aircraft was likely to have been the UP-I6208, which indicates that it was registered in Kazakhstan
The passenger plane, an Ilyushin Il-62 from Kazakhstan leased by Iran's Aria Aviation Company, hit a wall while landing
Cockpit and front part of the fuselage are completely destroyed
The aircraft is tipping back on its tail, with the main landing-gear deployed
News reports said 13 of 16 people killed in a plane accident were crew and the three others were passengers, and that 21 people were injured
Among the dead was Capt. Mehdi Dadpei, the airline's managing director
Cockpit and front part of the fuselage are completely destroyed
One of the central emergency chutes on the left side of the cabin has been deployed during the incident
The Il-62 is a long-range airliner with a capacity of about 185 passengers and a fair service record
An Iranian aviation official on Saturday said that preliminary results of an investigation into plane crash show that high speed has pushed the aircraft to slide off the runway while landing
Spokesman of Iran's Aviation Organization Reza Jafarzadeh told FNA that the Iranian aviation organization has stationed an investigation team at the accident site immediately after the incident in a bid to collect the necessary data and visit the site
"Preliminary investigation results indicate that the high speed of the plane at the time of landing was one of the main causes underlying the accident," Jafarzadeh said
The operation license of Aria Aviation Company has been suspended until thorough investigations take place.
