Puurunen made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here in Tehran on Wednesday, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Mottaki referred to the good relations between the two countries, and reiterated, "The ties between the two countries are based on their conventional interests and mutual respect."
He also hailed economic and commercial cooperation between Iran and Finland, noting that there reside ample intact grounds for boosting relations.
The Iranian minister lauded Finland's position towards the Lebanese people during the 33-day Israeli war in summer 2006, and thanked Helsinki for blaming the Zionist regime for its onslaught against civilians.
