Iran Names Military Musicfest Winners

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's first Military Music Festival announced its winners during a ceremony held at Milad Tower in the capital city of Tehran.

Some seven bands from the Iranian Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Police (NAJA) competed in the festival, which was held to honor the Iranian military's musical achievements since the Islamic Revolution.

"Music is the language of love and belongs to all nations," deputy of Iran's Foundation for the Remembrance of the Holy Defense, Syyed Ali Firouzi said at the ceremony, adding, "The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) always urged his followers to read the holy Qura'n in a melodic tone."

According to press tv, head of Tehran Municipality's Cultural and Artistic Organization, Ahmad Nourian also delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of music in lifting the spirits of troops, saying, "Music can organize and bring psychological insight."

The festival's first award went to the Iranian army band, while the second and third awards were granted to the Police University and Imam Ali University respectively.

Taqi Zarrabi received the best composer award and the best arrangement award went to Ali Nemati. Veteran military musician Rahmat Ata was honored at the ceremony.
