IAEA Board of Governors to Meet in November

TEHRAN (FNA)- Members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors are scheduled to convene in a seasonal meeting on November 23.

During the Board of Governors' meeting, which will last for four days, technical cooperation among the member countries will be studied.

The conference has no special agenda and is the last one chaired by the outgoing IAEA Director General, Mohamed ElBaradei.

ElBaradei is stepping down at the end of November and Yukiya Amano will start his career as the new chief of the UN nuclear watchdog agency.

Amano, a lawyer who graduated from Tokyo University and joined Japan's foreign ministry in 1972, has extensive experience negotiating nuclear safeguards agreements throughout his diplomatic career.

Amano is regarded as a reserved technocrat who will succeed the present IAEA head after 12 years of direction by ElBaradei, an outspoken Nobel Peace laureate.
