Farhadi's 'about Elly' to Represent Iran at Oscar

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian award-winning film 'about Elly' directed by Asqar Farhadi was selected by a committee to represent Iran in the 82nd edition of Oscar Film Festival.



The films was selected among three other films named as Twenty, Penniless and Doubt directed respectively by Abdolreza Kahani, Hamid Nematollah and Varuzh Karim Masihi as possible candidates for Oscar.

The film's success at the international and national scenes and its good structural and technical features helped the committee to choose it as Iran's representative at 2010 US Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (Oscar) Film Festival.

"About Elly" directed by Asghar Farhadi won the Silver Bear award of the 59th International Berlin Film Festival and the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature of the 8th Tribeca Film Festival in the US.

The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on February 2.

The only Iranian film which has so far been lucky enough to stand among the five nominees for Oscar was Children of Heaven directed by Majid Majidi which was among the 1998 five official nominations for the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
