Iran to Encounter Brazil's Futsal Team in 3 Matches

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian and Brazilian Futsal squads are due to hold three friendly matches in the capital after the latter arrives in the Iranian capital on September 20.



"The Brazilian outfit accompanied with the President of the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF), Aecio de Borba Vasconcelos, is scheduled to arrive in Iran on September 20," President of Iran's Futsal Committee Abbas Torabian said on Sunday.

The Brazilian team will leave Tehran after holding three matches against the Iranian national futsal team and the Iranian youth team respectively on September 21, 23 and 22 at the 12,000-seater Azadi complex, Torabian added.

He reiterated that Brazil will attend the matches with all its top foreign-based players who play in Spain, Russia and Portugal.

Iran, coached by Hossein Shams has played in five editions of FIFA Futsal World Championships reaching the semifinals in their first appearance in 1992.
They also reached the finals of 2009 Grand Prix de Futsal known as Futsal Mini-World Cup in Brazil.

Brazil currently leads the Futsal National Teams World Ranking while Iran has recently dropped two steps back to the sixth place after it lost 7-1 to the Brazilians at the 2009 Grand Prix de Futsal final at the Newton de Faria Stadium.

Iran, the nine time champions in Asian Futsal Championship, finished as the runner-up in the 2008 Grand Prix de Futsal after it was defeated by the host, Brazil.

The Grand Prix de Futsal, also known as Futsal Mini-World Cup, is an international futsal competition of the same kind of the FIFA Futsal World Championship but with invited nations and held annually in Brazil. It was first held in 2005.
