Lawmaker Terms Claims on Fordo Plant Political Propaganda
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator on Sunday dismissed recent claims on Fordo nuclear enrichment plant near the holy city of Qom, describing them as political propaganda by certain countries, including France.
Head of parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told reporters that Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei has recently announced his lack of concern regarding activities of the Fordo nuclear plant.
Fordo is located some 50 km from the central city of Qom, south of Tehran.
ElBaradei's remarks proved that Tehran's nuclear activities were within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Boroujerdi added.
On supply of nuclear fuel for Tehran's nuclear research reactor from domestic sources, he said since the Tehran reactor is designed to produce medicines for treatment of patients suffering from cancer, the issue of fuel for the reactor should be settled soon.
On purchase of fuel, the MP stressed that because France and the US had not fulfilled their previous commitments regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran, they are not reliable sources for the country.
Boroujerdi further pointed to the recent terrorist operation in southeastern Iran which resulted in killing and injuring of a number of commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guards' Corps by members of the terrorist Rigi group.
He said since the Pakistani intelligence service has links with that of the United States, it does not act honestly.
The Iranian interior minister has asked Pakistani officials to help arrest those members of the Rigi group involved in the terrorist incident and hand over them to Iranian authorities. He added that the Iranian nation is expecting appropriate response from Islamabad.
Asked about confiscation of an Iranian ship allegedly carrying weapons by the Zionist regime, Boroujerdi said the issue was not true and it was only propaganda.
