"On the global scene, we witness the effective presence of Iran's Navy in establishing security in regional and international waters, for which we have received several tablets from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in appreciation," General Mousavi said in a ceremony on Sunday marking the 'Navy Day'.
The Iranian Navy recently dispatched a fourth fleet of its warships to the Gulf of Aden to defend the country's cargo ships and oil tankers against continued attacks by the Somali pirates.
Meantime, Secretary-General of IMO Efthimios Mitropoulos in September lauded Iran's role in fighting pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
"The presence of the Iranian Navy in fighting pirates in the Gulf of Aden has been effective and we support this presence," Mitropoulos said..
Noting the Islamic Republic of Iran's presence in fighting piracy in the Somali coast and the Gulf of Aden, he underlined, "The Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy has taken good steps in supporting sea security and we appreciate these efforts."
Mitropoulos announced IMO's readiness to pave the way for further presence of Iranians at the organization's management levels.
Mousavi also appreciated the might and power of the Iranian Navy, and said protection of the 3,000 km-wide area of Iran's southern water-borders is an instance illustrating the Navy's power.
