Iran, Iraq to Boost Cooperation on Electricity

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou and his Iraqi counterpart Karim Wahid al-Hassan discussed ways to increase the two countries' cooperation on power supply.

During their meeting on Saturday, the two sides talked about Iranian companies' investment in Iraq.

The two sides also stressed boosting strategic power cooperation.

The Iraqi minister, for his part, announced that Iran is to increase power export to Iraq.

Wahid has also called for Iran to help build factory and power plant in Iraq.

Iran and Iraq signed an electricity deal in 2005 and reached agreement on nine electricity lines that four of which have been established so far. Two other lines will be established soon.

He also mentioned the four-sided agreement between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey to establish joint electricity network. The first meeting on the agreement was held in Baghdad.
