Tehran to Display Derambakhsh Sketches

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran's Nar art gallery is set to mount an exhibition of illustrations and sketches created by Iranian artist Kambiz Derambakhsh.

The event, to be held from Jan. 30 to Feb. 10, 2009, will display 20 of the artist's latest works in 1mx1m and 1mx1.5m dimensions.

"The exhibition will showcase large versions of a selection of works from among 5 to 6,000 sketches," Kambiz Derambakhsh told the Iranian students news agency.

"This will be my 16th exhibition in the past four years," said Derambakhsh, adding, "The works are decorative and are not considered caricatures, but they have a slight sense of humor originating from my being a caricaturist."

Derambakhsh has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in different art centers around the globe such as Wilhelm Busch Museum, Dusseldorf Arts Gallery, Basel Caricature Museum and Austria's Afro-Asian Muslim student Society.

Kambiz Derambakhsh has been actively corroborating with the New York Agency of the International Syndicate of Caricaturists and Koch Caricature Agency (CCC) in Munich and has contributed to numerous international newspapers, magazines, and periodicals including Nebel Spalter, Die Zeite, La Republica, Le Monde, The New York Times and Pardon.

A 1969 poll organized by the Gabrovo House of Humor & Satire of Bulgaria named Derambakhsh as one of the Hundred Best Caricaturists of the World.

He has also received the 1987 First Prize for the best caricature book of the year in Bringen, Belgium, the First Prize of the Greens of Germany-Munich, the 1988 Grand Prize and gold medal of Istanbul, Turkey, and the 1990 Grand Prize of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
