TEHRAN (FNA)- The first round of the eighth meeting of Iran-Oman defense friendship committee was held here in Tehran on Sunday.
The meeting was led by the acting deputy of the Iranian Armed Forces' Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence and Operation General Mohammad Ali Rahmani and Omani Armed Forces' Deputy Chief of Staff for Operation and Planning General Rashed Bin Sif Mohsen al-Shaidi.
During the meeting, also attended by military dignitaries from both sides, the two delegations underlined the necessity for strengthening and expanding defense and military cooperation between the two countries.
They also stressed that defense cooperation between the two sides is significant and strategic for peace, stability and security of the region.
The two sides also reviewed potentials and capacities for further cooperation and discussed other issues of mutual interest.
Cooperation on military training, naval issues and telecommunication as well as visits to each other's naval vessels and coast guards were among the other topics discussed during the meeting.
The two sides are also scheduled to stage joint relief and rescue exercises in the coastal waters of Iran's southern city of Bandar Abbas.
