National FOI Day conference 2006

By First Amendment Center Online

ARLINGTON, Va. — This year’s conference, “FOIA at Forty: The Past’s Lessons For The Future,” will be held tomorrow at the Freedom Forum’s World Center in Arlington. See agenda.

The annual symposium brings together access advocates, government officials, lawyers, librarians, journalists, educators and others to discuss the latest issues and developments in freedom of information.

The First Amendment Center Online will provide news coverage on the home page during and after the daylong conference. We will also offer several podcasts the following day excerpting some of what was said by speakers and panelists. Links to the audio files will appear on this page.

This eighth annual FOI Day conference will also usher 21 new inductees into the National Freedom of Information Hall of Fame — people whose work on the public's behalf against official secrecy has helped the cause of open records and open government.

The 2006 conference is sponsored by the First Amendment Center and co-sponsored by Sunshine Week, in cooperation with the American Library Association.
