TEHRAN (FNA)- An official from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced that the country will join the world nuclear club within a month in a bid to deter possible attacks on the country.
"No country would even think about attacking Iran after Iran's membership in the club," Deputy Head of AEOI for Research Behzad Soltani said on Tuesday.
Behzadi, who is also Secretary of the AEOI's Scientific Cooperation Council, further pointed to the construction of 360 MW nuclear power plant and a 40 MW research reactor in Iran's central city of Arak, and added that the projects are complete by 70%.
He also said that thousands of radio medicines have been produced by Iran and the move will provide for the medical needs of 850,000 patients who are fighting against cancerous diseases.
"We do not intend to use the peaceful nuclear energy merely for generating electricity and energy, rather our next step would be expanding use of this technology for purposes other than energy and fuel production so that foodstuff, proteins and vegetables are preserved for a longer time and with a higher quality through radiation," Behzadi underlined.
He added that the technology will develop economic growth and prosperity in Iran.
"This means Iran's mighty nuclear independence intermingled with economic growth, expansion of technology and political power in the international arena," the official concluded.
