Allawi to Send Delegation to Iran Today

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iraqiya alliance, a Sunni-Shiite alliance headed by Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, will send a delegation to Tehran on Tuesday, an official said.

A source close to Allawi's office told FNA in Baghdad that Deputy Prime Minister Rafe al-Issawi will lead the delegation in the visit to Tehran.

The delegation, which was slated to visit Iran last Thursday, delayed the trip for unknown reasons.

Earlier, Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazzemi Qomi had announced that Tehran welcomes the delegation's visit to Iran.

Mr. Allawi's Iraqiya alliance won 91 seats and would need support from both the Kurds and one of the Shiite alliances.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has played an active role in encouraging the conduct of the election and encouraging Iraqis to participate actively in the
election," Qomi said.

The Iranian ambassador said Iran had good relations with all factions in Iraq, "specially good relations and cooperation with the brothers from the Sunni community".
