In a letter to his Italian counterpart, Hosseini pointed to the long presence of Hamid Ma'souminejad in Italy and his brilliant and clear record as a professional reporter saying that his arrest was based on hollow accusations.
Ma'souminejad was arrested by Italian police in March.
Regretting that the Italian judiciary has been relying on no legal documents, logical reasons or valid proofs in the un-expected arrest of the Iranian reporter, Hosseini said the arrest was just politically-motivated and served particular purposes.
He stressed that the act of the Italian judiciary in arresting Ma'souminejad stood in clear contrast with the freedom of expression in a country such as Italy which claimed to be the cradle of democracy and human rights.
The minister further called on his Italian counterpart, both as an official and a cultural figure, to frankly defend the rights of Iranian reporter and worked for his speedy release.
