TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) naval forces discovered and seized a large cargo of smuggled fuel in Iran's southern waters on Sunday.
The border guard forces of the IRGC's first naval zone discovered 34000 liters of smuggled gasoil from a dhow during a check and search operation near the Iranian Island of the Greater Tunb in the Persian Gulf.
The fuel, skillfully hidden in the dhow, was due to be delivered to a foreign vessel illegally.
The IRGC forces also arrested the captain and three crews of the vessel and handed them over to the judiciary authorities of Iran's southern province of Hormozgan.
In 2008, the IRGC was appointed to defend the Persian Gulf security. The Iranian army has been tasked with controlling the Sea of Oman and the Caspian Sea, while the full responsibility for defending the Persian Gulf security has been entrusted to the IRGC.
