JUBA, 16 May 2011 - Sudan Advocacy for Development (NGO) is a non-profit media organization that strives to disseminate accurate, balanced and useful information through a weekly newspaper in Southern Sudan and, thus, contribute to peace-building, conflict management and nation-building, enhance transparency and democratic participation as well as improve the socio-economic status of war affected communities. It also strives to improve the quality and professionalism of the media in Southern Sudan. We are looking for qualified and committed staff who have the appropriate skills and knowledge to fill the available vacancies. Reporters/photographer
Location of the job: Juba
Duties: Gather news/photo material through sources, interviews, press conferences; write timely news and features articles for the newspaper and regular updates for the website (reporters); take timely pictures for news and features articles (for photographer); develop good contacts with the authorities and other newsworthy people
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Mass Communication or related field
• Good computer skills and ability to use the Internet
• Two years working experience
• Ability to work against deadlines
• Solid news judgment
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Knowledge of local languages and/or Arabic is an advantage
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours

 

Correspondents
Location of the job: Malakal, Bor, Aweil, Rumbek, Torit, Kwajok, Bentiu, Khartoum, Nuba Mountains, Blue Nile or Darfur
Duties: in addition to above: be responsible for the distribution of the newspaper in the respective states

Circulation Manager
Location of the job: Juba
Duties: distribute the newspaper in an accurate and timely manner to the ten states of Southern Sudan; supervise transport and storage; follow-up on delivery; collection of revenues and returns
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field
• Good computer skills, esp. Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to use the Internet
• Two years working experience in logistics
• Excellent written and spoken English, working knowledge of Arabic
• Excellent organizational and negotiation skills
• Willingness to travel

 

Advertising manager
Location of the job: Juba
Duties: identify advertisers, promote and sell advertising space; prepare and negotiate advertising contracts; network with the graphic designer and the client; inspect lay-out and edit advertisement scripts; assist with annual budget development plan
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field
• Good computer skills, esp. Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to use Internet
• Understanding of marketing strategies and sales techniques
• Two years working experience
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Time management and communication skills
• Knowledge of graphic design

 

Driver
Location of the job: Juba
Duties: report on duty according to schedule; ensure that assigned vehicle is clean and road worthy; ensure proper maintenance and servicing of vehicle; use office vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery/collection of mail, documents, cargo; make field trips in and outside the country; ensure insurance and board documents are in order
Qualifications:
• Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, clean criminal record
• Excellent knowledge of driving rules and regulations
• Skills in basic vehicle repair
• Excellent knowledge of English and working knowledge of Arabic
• Two years working experience as a driver
• Willingness to travel extensively

 

Graphics designer
Duties: design adverts in a timely manner; edit advertising scripts; cooperate closely with advertising manager and advertisers
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Computer Sciences or related field
• Excellent knowledge of Indesign or related design programme
• Two years experience in designing adverts
• Time management and communication skills
