Vision:

 

The vision of the Ministry is to transform Southern Sudan into a culturally harmonious and vibrant society where ethnic and cultural diversity of her people is a source of strength, unity and pride, to be a pioneer in the development and empowerment of the youth of Southern Sudan through the provision of education and lifelong skills and safeguard their physical, moral and intellectual wellbeing and to ensure their effective and patriotic participation in the affairs of Southern Sudan.

 

Mission:

 

Our mission is to realize the above vision by developing and implementing programmes, strategies and action plans in the area if culture, youth and sports in conformity with the mandate bestowed upon the Government of Southern Sudan by the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan (Articles 41 and 43).

 

 

Functions:

 

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports performs the following functions and duties:

 

  1. Promote cultural heritage and identity;
  2. Foster cultural interaction between different parts of Southern Sudanese society;
  3. Promote the spiritual, mental, physical and professional preparation of youth in Southern Sudan;
  4. Lay down general policies, by-laws and plans of action for the promotion of youth, sports and cultural activities and projects in Southern Sudan;
  5. Establish, promote and equip libraries;
  6. Protect and preserve tangible and intangible cultural heritage records of Southern Sudan;
  7. Upervise Southern Sudan Youth Services;
  8. Develop general policies on and promotion of youth development;
  9. Supervise all youth organizations and centres and hostels in Southern Sudan;
  10. Establish and maintain the Southern Sudan archives, museums and art galleries;
  11. Identify, gazette, maintain and oversee national monuments;
  12. Promote and conduct inter-state youth sports activities;
  13. Coordinate and technically support organized forces in concerned sports and cultural activities;
  14. Coordinate with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the area of sports and culture in schools;
  15. Liaise and provide inputs to national bodies responsible for sports, youth and culture; and
  16. Advise and support states and local governments in their responsibilities for culture, youth and sports and build their capacity to assume all functions vested by the Constitution and GoSS policy.
