Hon. Dr Pauline Riak

Chairperson's Profile

Dr Riak, a graduate of Stanford University, California, USA, has over thirty years of experience in capacity building and training of human resources, educational systems for socio-economic development, community development and women in development programmes in Eastern and Western Africa, the English and Dutch speaking Caribbean and the USA. She established the Sociology Department at Kenyatta University in Kenya in 1989 and was its academic and administrative head for four years. She has also worked in community development, disaster relief, women in development and with displaced urban refugee communities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Nigeria.

 

Since June 26, 2006 she has been the Chairperson of the South Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission (SSACC). In her professional capacity, she is a member of the Corruption Hunters Network (International). Since her appointment she has been working to build the structure of the institutions, develop management procedures, both financial and administrative. She is committed to develop a modern sustainable and functional institution to fight corruption in South Sudan. Dr. Riak is a strong team-player who insists on qualities of work and integrity of all staff.

 

 

Functions:

 

The SSACC is an autonomous and impartial body corporate established under Section 147 of the Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan, 2005 as read with Section 6 of the Southern Sudan Anti-Corruption Act, 2009. The Commission has a mandate, inter alia, to protect public property and investigate cases of corruption with a view to protecting public property as well as in the private sector and combating administrative malpractices in public institutions.
