In his message, Ahmadinejad extended his congratulations over the 20th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence from the former Soviet Union, and hoped for the further enhancement of ties between the two neighboring states.

"I am confident that Tajikistan's government and people will step on the path of progress and development, relying on the country's age-old history and art and the valuable experiences they have gained during the last two decades after their country's independence, and on this path they will have the Islamic Republic of Iran's support," the Iranian president said.

He further expressed the hope that the two countries' friendly relations would further develop in light of the serious resolve and efforts made by the two countries' officials.
