A woman died Thursday night when she was struck and killed by a car while she sat on a bus bench, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m., FHP spokesman Sgt. Tom Pikul said.

The woman was sitting on a bus bench near Southwest 93rd Avenue and Bird Road in Westchester, Pikul said, when a the driver of an eastbound silver Dodge Neon lost control of the car. The Neon left the road and hit the woman.

She died at the scene, Pikul said. The driver stayed. He was not hurt.

Troopers were trying to determine Thursday night what caused the driver to lose control.

The names of the driver and the woman were not released Thursday night.
