Finland's Envoy Urges Importance of Tehran-Helsinki Ties

TEHRAN (FNA)- Finland's Ambassador to Iran Herri Salmi underlined the significance of his country's ties with Tehran.

Speaking at a meeting with Governor-General of Iran's Southern province of Hormozgan on Monday, Salmi called for broader efforts to further expand the two countries' relations.

He added that Finland can establish industrial ties and cooperation with Hormozgan province in shipbuilding and fishing industries.

His remarks came after Finland's Foreign Minister Erkki Sakari Tuomioja in September voiced his country's willingness to boost ties and cooperation with Iran in different fields.

The issue was raised by the Finnish Foreign Minister in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi in New York and on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.

"We are living in a common world economically and ecologically and therefore, we should move towards common goals hand in hand and through a joint effort," Tuomioja stated.

"We need friendship and cooperation."
