Iran Wins First Gold in World Weightlifting Championships in Paris

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Kianoush Rostami won the gold medal in the men's 85-kilogram division in the world weightlifting championships in France on Friday.

Rostami lifted 173 kilos in the snatch and 209 in the clean and jerk for a 382 total to claim the gold medal, after finishing as runner-up at the Asian Championships in April.

Frenchman Benjamin Hennequin finished second with a combined 378 and Adrian Zielinski of Poland took bronze with a 376 total.

The competition ends on Sunday, while Iranians are still waiting for their Behdad Salimi, crowned as the world's most powerful man, to come on stage in the 105+ category.
