Iran Wins Second Gold Medal in Olympic Games

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran earned a second gold medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games after its Greco-Roman world champion Omid Haji Norouzi won Georgia's Revaz Lashkhi in the final match of the men's 60kg category at ExCeL Monday evening.

Norouzi overpowered wrestlers from China, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Japan before defeating Georgia's Lashkhi in the first and second periods with similar results of 1-0 in the final and earning a gold medal.

Norouzi's medal was Iran's second gold in the London Olympics.

On Sunday, Iran's five-time world champion Hamid Sourian Reihanpour won the country's first gold medal in the London Olympic Games after defeating Azerbaijan's Greco-Roman wrestler in the 55kg category Rovshan Bayramov in the final match.

Sourian had a wonderful start in the London Games and won wrestlers from Hungary, Kazakhstan and Denmark before meeting Bayramov in the final.

The 26-year-old Iranian genius won both times 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.

Sourian's medal was not just Iran's first gold in the London 2012 Olympics, but the country's first-ever Greco-Roman wrestling gold medal in Olympic games throughout the history.

Iran's weightlifting world champion Kianoosh Rahmati had also earlier earned a bronze medal in the London Games.

USD 165,000-state rewards will be waiting for Iranian gold medal winners as soon as they return home.
