Iran, Russia Stress Cooperation in Confronting West's Cultural Invasion

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Culture Minister Seyed Mohammad Hosseini and his Russian counterpart Pavel Khoroshilov in a meeting in Beijing underlined the necessity of cooperation in standing against the western states' cultural invasion and domination.

"The Americans seek to continue their political hegemony by means of cultural and art productions," Hosseini said during the meeting on the sidelines of the 9th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) culture ministers meeting on Wednesday.

"Owing to their cultural roots and the similarity and closeness of Eastern customs and traditions, the SCO members, including Iran and Russia, can prevent the West's cultural invasion by strengthening cooperation," he added.

Khoroshilov hailed Iran and Russia's rich cultures, and reiterated Moscow's readiness to bolster ties with Tehran in holding cultural and art exhibitions.

Earlier, senior Iranian and Russian officials in a meeting in Moscow had also explored avenues for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries in cultural and scientific fields.

During the meeting between Foreign Ministry Director-General for Commonwealth States and Caucuses Affairs Mohammad Reza Morshedzadeh with Head of Russia's Cultural, Scientific and Educational Committee D.Z. Fedorovna in Moscow in April, the two sides also expressed readiness for exchanging experiences in different scientific and research fields.
