Iranian Police Seize Large Amounts of Narcotics in 2 Days
TEHRAN (FNA)- Border guard units of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police have seized about 4 tons of different types of narcotics from two drug networks during the last 48 hours, a senior Iranian police commander announced.
Commander of the Iranian Border Guard Units General Hossein Zolfaqari said on Monday that his forces have identified and dismantled two drug gangs over the past 48 hours, seizing around four tons of different narcotics.
He added that two drug-traffickers were killed in the anti-drug operations while another four were arrested and one was injured.
Zolfaqari added that Iran's border guards took some good measures, including digging ditches and installing barbed wire, in the last Iranian year (ended March 19) to close the country's Eastern borders and stem the flow of drugs.
Iran, located at the crossroad of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan to Europe.
Iran leads international efforts in fighting drug networks and narcotic traffickers.
According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics.
