China Reiterates Iran's Right to Access N. Energy

TEHRAN (FNA)- Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo lauded the strategic ties between his country and Tehran, and reiterated China's support for Iran's right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

"As a permanent UN Security Council member state, China considers peaceful use of nuclear energy as Iran's legal right and believes that differences over the issue should be resolved through continuation of negotiations," Banggue said, speaking at a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here in Tehran on Monday.

He criticized the US hegemonic attitude towards Iran and its allies, adding that trade and economic agreements between Iran and China are not against any international law.

"The US has shown unacceptable behavior by imposing unilateral sanctions (against Iran)," China's top legislator stated, and stressed that his country will use all its capacities to maintain friendly relations with its important regional and international partner, Iran.

Trade between the two countries in the past year was estimated at $45 billion.

China, like Russia, has consistently opposed the US pressures on Iran and the West's economic sanctions imposed on the Iranian financial sector and petroleum products.

China has refused to comply with US requests to decrease oil imports from Iran and instead has increased its trade with the country.
